random sites for this week

***

My kids taught me that word "random". And I plan on using it liberally in this post, smile.

A new look at Google Earth. Now, a one stop place to eliminate unwanted catalogs from your snail mailbox and save a few trees.

One of the most amazing organizations of our time spotlighting an incredible inventor.

Here's a place to share your inner most secrets at PostSecret blog. The concept is to send in a decorated postcard with a secret that has never been uttered to another human being. Some hot babes to get you going - just kidding - they are a pyrotechnic theater troupe.

Here's a place where you can go to get smarter and donate free rice - for FREE! A place to go for great music is righteous babes records.

And it's finally appeared on the internet, a place to go to get free therapy - hey, I'm totally serious here. Did you know that John Mayer has his own blog and takes pictures of the food he eats every day?

Maybe we need to send this to baby bush for his review - but we gotta tell him he can't make any changes to it. People who use business to make positive changes in our world.

Well, my friends - that's all I've got to share with you. Oh wait - here's how to do what you love.

giving away secrets

*****

Hey now, hey now. <-- open this link in another tab

While you listen to my musical interlude (the idea came by way of my friend at the Enigma Cafe) I want to share one of my wow~what~a~cool~site secrets with you-all.

The Ideal Bite has been sending me environmental sites and actions for some time now. You can sign up to get you own delivered to your preferred email address. Here are a few of the sites that have come through to my email from them in the last week: The Greenloop, Coats for Cubs, BioBags, EcoSafe, and Greenline Paper.

As you can see, saving the environment is very important for me and I think it has become much more since I've become a Nana. Oh yea ~ news alert ~ my third grandchild was born 11/14 and I was blessed enough to greet him into this world. Now you know why I've been a bit late with this weeks blog post ~ smile.

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

I believe that in order to save this species called human we will need to start loving and taking care of our Mother Earth. For if we don't, She will have to take measures to save Herself. The cleansing and purging that She has already started ~ cyclones and fires and hurricanes ~ to some may be called natural disasters but to me they are our Mother's attempts at healing Herself by doing what we would do if we had a parasite on our skin. We would wash, burn, scrub; basically do anything we could to get off the irritant. So, for the sake of my grand babies and their grand babies, I take actions, drive a biodiesel car and lessen my footprint as best I can on our Mother Earth. We need to start living for our future generations or we will not, as a species, have a future on this planet.

So here's some more links/sites that I regularly respond to emails and take actions from: Environmental Action, Institute for the Study of Planet Earth, Sustainable Communities, Sustainable Business, Co-op America, NRDC, and Environmental Defense, Credo Action.

If you-all have any favorite sites or places you go to help out our survival, please let me/us know! Hugs and yes siree, I'm dancing on Friday!!! smile

Now that we are coming into the holiday season ~ ever want to know which charities to gift to? Well, here are some sites that can help you in deciding whom to give that generous donation to Give.org and GuideStar. Also, check out this site to make sure your chosen charity doesn't test on animals CaringConsumer. Another thought while we are on the topic of giving and holidays ~ most charities you donate to will be able to accommodate your gift in the name of another sentient being ~ so donate to your fav charity as a gift to your loved ones this holiday season.

Watching a DVD last evening about the 14th Dali Lama (10 Questions for the Dalai Lama), I was informed that the 'big' search engines bent under pressure from the Chinese government and the only information that the Chinese populous get about Tibet and the Dali Lama are government propaganda. If you are in China and type into their version of Google (for an example) 'Dali Lama' you will only be directed to web sites that slander this great man. So I, for one, plan on emailing them to tell them exactly what I think of their selective release of information(I will let you-all know if I get a response) and now I'm wondering what our government has decided to keep from us. Here are some other search engines sites that are also available; GoodSearch Blackle CatchTomorrow GreenMaven .

And last but not least, a fun web page titled All My Favs!

so shall we?

i got
sent
this today:

Subject: Interesting fact.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue of the U.S. involvement in Iraq,
here's a sobering statistic.

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of
operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,867 deaths.

That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 persons for
the same period. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot
and killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington

DVD

i just bought one

a DVD that is

War Made Easy

and joined
in a screening

but this whole
DVD thing
got me thinking
about the amount of
money wasted
(my opinion only)
on
the purchase
of DVD seasons
of TV shows

not only do they have
the American
populous
watching new shows
with new seasons
and new cliff hangers

but people also pay,
sometimes
hundreds of dollars,
for 'old' TV shows

just to have them
and maybe one
day watch
them
when they have time
and aren't watching
the new stuff
???

is this
an Alzheimer's
generation
of people
???

you mean
you
can't remember
how that season
of
(pick a tv show)
ended
??

and bottom line for
me

was it really
that
important
to give
your hard earned cash
out to some media executive
so they can go to Maui??

geeze, if it were
me
I'd rather save
all them dollars
and go to Maui myself!!

solutions

ok

i know
i've said on
numerous
occasions

that

people are draining their
brains
watching tv
and it
is
what i think
is
the number one
reason
for apathy
in America

ok
here's a solution
(besides
blowing up
all those
stations)

a bit of history first

at lunch
i sit
by myself
and watch people

and one thing
that zonked me
on the head
today

was
the
lack of touching
of intimacy
between Americans

even people who walked together
were not holding
hands
or even looking at each other

and i got to thinking
our media portrays
sex
all over the place

but nothing about intimacy

we have a generation
or two
of people
growing up
in front
of the boob-tube
that
know nothing
about intimacy
the coming together
as people
the
finding of commonality

touching skin to skin
means sex
in this America

~so the solution?~

to touch

to touch everyone
we meet

and say hi
look in their eyes
smile
and touch their arm

make that connection
talk
laugh
cry
interact

so people
won' t have a
need to go home
and turn on their
tv

for intimacy

peace people

this web site

my kind of humor

tee hee

i found it yesterday
while surfing
the net
for some answer
or another

don't you
just love the gems
you find
without
even looking
for them?

like that twenty
in that coat
you put away
last winter

or the penny
while walking
down the street?

and that brings
up a thought i had

how come people
think pennies
are not worth
picking
up off the ground?

they would pick up
a paper note
like a dollar
or a five

but it seems
these days
that metal money
is not worth
people's bending down and
retrieving time

have they forgotten
how to add??

cuz 100 of them
pennies makes a dollar
and 4 of them quarters
makes a dollar...
and so on
and so forth

wasn't there
a rumor
about the treasury
doing away
with the metal money?

humm, something
else i can

cars

as i was
driving

today

i got to thinking

and
no
not

about the
thousands of

one person in them
(well
not this time)

but about
American car
manufacturers

who
in their arrogance
(that's my word for it)
with the
american
consumer

given
rising
gas prices,
the
higher cost
of consumer
goods,
inflated house
prices
(i could
go on here
but i
won't)

well
they

still continue
to make
big
huge
poor
made
low warranty
non-hybrid cars

and these
car factories
are like
one
of the last
biz-ness-es
that haven't
taken
all
(i said 'all' here)

so

full moon and lunar eclipse

saturday

we had
a momentous
happening

the first
full moon
lunar eclipse

here's
some info:

Every month the Moon travels in her orbit completely around the Earth. The New Moon occurs as the Moon is in exact alignment with the Sun (a conjunction), and Full Moons happen as the Moon and Sun are opposite each other with the Earth in between. An eclipse of the Moon (Lunar Eclipse) can only occur at a Full Moon when the Earth, Sun and Moon are all in alignment and when the Moon is in opposition to the Sun and only if the Moon passes through some portion of the Earth’s shadow. In other words, a Lunar Eclipse is when the Earth gets in the way of the sun’s light shining on a Full Moon and there appears to be a dark shadow moving across the Moon. The easiest way to remember what a Lunar eclipse means is to say ‘the present blots out the past’. The moon is usually associated with the past in astrology and whatever issues you need to clarify just think about them and don’t dwell on the past. Sometimes an eclipse signals the end of a relationship, sometimes the taking of a relationship to the next level and sometimes a change in marital status. (Taken from)

seriously here

we wonder why
we/our government

debt

but why wonder

just look at

consumer

reading again

when i

and life-changing
book

so
i thought

it with
you-all
today

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandpile at Sunday School. These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life--learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup--they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned--the biggest word of all--LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or your government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all--the whole world--had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are-- when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

--Robert Fulghum

i dream of
companies
owned by the people
who work in them,
who's mission
is to
'do no harm'

creative companies
where the bottom line
is not
how cheap to make
how much to sell

but

how best
to make a product
that lasts a long
long time
and
have minimal impact
on our mother earth
and
that 90 percent
of our population
can afford
and use/need

i dream some day
of creating these
companies
helping their birth
and then
watching,
as you watch a toddler take it's first steps,
them grow
and prosper
and then,
like a young adult

able to survive
on it's own

looking back
only to smile
and say thanks

gonna give

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

the desert in snow

this is what i woke up to this morning - the snow was all the way down, to the valley my house is in - - my daughter called me last night and told me to go outside and when i did

a giant snow flake landed on my nose

i was gonna write about the urban war we, in america have going on

but there's always tomorrow

today i'm gonna sit and enjoy the warmth of my home and stare at the snow

let's fun our friday - YEA!

so glad it's friday

and today
i drove into
work with
some nice
gentle rain

anyone out
there ever smell
a southwest desert
in the rain?

it's got the most unique
smell in the world
a plant called
creosote bush

so i opened my
car window
and let that smell in

ahhhhh

Anyone up
for dancing
in the rain?

yes yes yes

i had a blast
and ended up dancing
for 7 hours
this past weekend

yep - seven
it was so much fun

i guess i had a lot
of pent
up
energy to
release

which got me to
thinking

that if baby bush
had something
better to
do with his time
than plan wars
and piss off major world
power leaders

this planet
of ours
would be
a far better place

so i think i'll write
the white house
and suggest
that condi
start booking some
live bands

and have
richard b
start inviting all
his rich and
influential friends

then have
laura
decorate

so thay all
can have
a DANCE

i'd bet
it'll chill
everyone out

nice long weekend

honoring a wonderful man
martin luther king

and now
on to something
that just makes me
sick

TV ads for enlisting
in
the military
have gone to
a new low - no surprise
but...

(fade to
son in military
uniform
standing next to tractor
with wheat fields in the distance
and parents standing
to his left
holding hands
and looking
admiringly
at their son)

this is all i saw
and didn't hear anything
as i mute TV
when i do watch it

but all i could think
about when i saw
this was
what if i had lost
my child
to this damn
war and
turned on my TV
to see
this....

no more theories

sorry
but i didn't
have any more theories
to share

just facts
that people
have lied
and are
still
lying
and i doubt
that these

particular people
will
ever stop
lying

at least
not while
they are getting
exactly what they
want

so
how
about not
giving them
what they want?

conspiracy therory #1

before i get
to my theory

thanks everyone
for your
good wishes

thanks so much

and now on
to this new
conspiracy theory

i was thinking
over the weekend

what if
this whole war
thingy
was
planned
by

the flag people

as every
man or woman
that dies
in combat
gets one

an american
flag that is

see, flag sales
were slacking
a few years back
and so
to boost
up
sales

the flag people
sent lobbyists
to washington
and paid big bucks
for them
to start another
war

hey
if baby bush can come up
with his theories
like
they have weapons
of mass destruction
or they
blew up
the twin
towers

then i can
come up with my
own imaginary
theory

(tongue outta cheeks now)
